From the Manufacturer
Why the brand name “Avant”?
“Avant” is the French word for “before,” symbolizing prevention (i.e. before you get sick).
How to properly use a hand sanitizer?
Dispense an adequate amount of hand sanitizer in your palm to cover all surfaces of the hands completely. Then, rub hands together until dry. Be certain to cover back of hands, in between fingers, and around fingernails.
Are alcohol-based hand sanitizers flammable?
Yes, alcohol-based hand sanitizers are flammable and should be kept away from fire or flames.
Are foaming hand sanitizers better than gel sanitizers?
B4 Brands offers both gel and foaming hand sanitizers. Efficacy and skin sensitivity data suggests that there are no measurable differences between gel and foam hand sanitizers. The choice between gel versus foam is really a personal preference. Some people believe that gel hand sanitizers are easier to move around the hands. Others prefer foam because it tends to cling to hands rather than roll off or drip.
What is CHG and CHG compatibility?
CHG is an acronym for Chlorhexidine Gluconate. CHG is a commonly used antimicrobial ingredient used in surgical scrubs and healthcare antiseptic soaps. CHG has persistent germ killing properties. CHG compatible means that the product being used will not inhibit the effectiveness (both instant and persistent kill) of a CHG-based product below a required level.
Are Avant hand sanitizers safe for use by children?
Yes, Avant hands sanitizers are safe for children to use, however sanitizers should be kept out of reach of children. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have recommended the use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers when soap and water are not available and hands are not visibly dirty. The CDC recommends that children in school may use alcohol-based hand rubs as an alternative to handwashing.
Do Avant hand sanitizers lead to resistent bacteria?
The Avant hand sanitizer products utilize ethanol (alcohol) as the active ingredient. The ethanol provides and instant germ kill without persistent activity. There is no evidence in research literature that organisms adapt and become immune to the alcohol-based hand sanitizers.
How much hand sanitizer should be used per application?
The answer to this question depends entirely upon the size of the hands. An adequate amount should be applied such that all surfaces of the hands are completely covered and remain wet for at least 15 seconds.
How much alcohol should a hand sanitizer have in it?
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires that alcohol-based hand sanitizers contain between 60% and 95% ethanol (alcohol).
Question: Do the Avant hand sanitizers kill MRSA, viruses, and H1N1?
No. No hand sanitizer products are indicated to prevent or kill MRSA. Unfortunately, some hand sanitizers on the market are making MRSA kill claims, but these claims should not be trusted.According to the CDC, Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) is a type of staph bacteria that is resistant to certain antibiotics called beta-lactams. These antibiotics include methicillin and other more common antibiotics such as oxacillin, penicillin, and amoxicillin. In the community, most MRSA infections are skin infections. The CDC has published an entire section of their website on MRSA. Learn more at: http://www.cdc.gov/mrsa/
Do the Avant hand sanitizers kill germs persistently?
No. The Avant hand sanitizers are designed to kill germs instantly, but not persistently.
